At the Georgian Milk Mark Federation, advocacy is at the core of our mission. Through strategic initiatives and collaborative efforts, we ensure fair treatment and uphold the highest standards of quality and integrity. From protecting consumers' rights to advocating for the welfare of dairy producers, we are committed to fostering a sustainable and equitable industry. Small-scale farmers using low-impact systems and having very small carbon footprints supply milk to community-based enterprises that emphasize sustainable use of renewable natural resources in their local areas. The federation is committed to highlighting the value of its sustainable community-based system. These enterprises add value for their milk suppliers by providing knowledge and social bonds, which are important sources of local employment. This model of sustainable local production upholds environmental and social values that benefit the entire community.

Unfair Competition

In recent years, the use of milk powder has significantly increased among cheese producers. The main reason is the low cost of production. Some consumers may prefer to buy cheese made with milk powder because it is cheap, however, all consumers have the right to know when cheese is made with milk powder through clear unambiguous labeling. Federation Members are helping the trading environment get involved in advocacy for Sustainable production.

It is highly recommended not to buy cheese if the sales environment is not clean and hygienic and if it is unclear where the cheese comes from or what it is made from.

Fair-Trading Practices

Over the last decade, the formal market has grown and a substantial power imbalance has become apparent between supermarkets and dairies. Despite years of experience in selling to supermarkets, small shops, markets, HoReCa entities and other buyers, dairy enterprises are having to cope with unstable and unfair terms of trade. These include delayed or partial payments, high entry fees, hidden charges, unfair practices and a general lack of transparency and accountability, all of which create cashflow problems for the dairies who are dealing with daily transaction costs. Federation members are helping shape the trading environment by getting involved in advocacy.
